This is how Maya Angelou introduced her poem “A Brave and Startling Truth” written in commemoration of the UN’s 50th Anniversary, in 1995. In light of the recent attacks (ongoing violence), it seems timely to revisit her sentiment for something alluring about the brave and startling truth of our dignity not only – as I like to say – to the One who made us for Himself – but to each other.
C.S. Lewis reminds, “There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal.” May we be reminded of this as we grasp this brave and startling truth:
