Heaven On Earth

Written by Simon Porter

The sun rose above the trees,

A glowing orb of fiery power.

The trees come alight in reflective glory

Their leaves orange, red, magenta and gold.

The white hoar frost recedes,

After blanketing all nature,

With its sense of virgin newness

And crisp sharp freshness,

That such a a morning can bring.

The silence shouts aloud the imminence of earth’s creator,

As gently I make my way in awe and wonder through this heaven.

The trees now seem to blaze with intensity,

As though each competing to reveal their God,

All wanting to shout the great glad news,

That Christ can be found within each leaf.

The floor is thick with soft brown leaves,

To create a carpet ready for a king,

As I move along this walk of wonder,

One with the Majesty within.

The silence shouts aloud the imminence of earth’s creator,

As gently I make my way in awe and wonder through this heaven.

I see the scarlet holly berries,

Clustered in bright profusion,

Against the dark green leaf,

Promising food and sustenance,

Telling of generosity and supply.

I rest awhile and watch,

The silent wren as she darts about,

Her busyness seems contentment,

With all the world around,

And she speaks the same message,

To all who will stop and wonder awhile.

The silence shouts aloud the imminence of earth’s creator,

As gently I make my way in awe and wonder through this heaven.

And here in this place of sacredness,

Every view of life and gentle sound,

Shouts God is here, anew and so profound,

Filling each colour, plant and species,

With certainty that I am not alone.

This creation provides the first Incarnation,

And shows that God inhabits everything he has made,

And mystically we stand as one,

Not separate from the leaf, the wren,

But together God fills all in all,

If we but stop and slowly wonder,

At this image so divine.
